Practicing Responsible Scholarly Publishing

Oct 12, 2023

  • Abstract: Scholarly publishing touches upon responsibilities of different parties, such as editors, reviewers, authors, and potential roles of readers. The essence here is not only to understand how the scholarly content is created, but also how it is evaluated, disseminated to the scholarly community and beyond and preserved for the long term. In this event, participants have an opportunity to find out responsible scholarly publishing from different angles. Participants will learn about the roles of different parties involved in scholarly publishing and their challenges, gain a deeper understanding of different types of unethical authorship, co-authorship criteria and the practice of applying them, new types of (co-)authorship (e.g. co-authoring with lay people, publishing as independent researchers), challenges of authorship during the career shifts. The practice of the Journal of Academic Ethics and other cases will be exemplified.
